How to use the beard graft calculator

1. Select the areas you want to explore. Choose the moustache, below the lower lip, chin, either cheek, jawline or sideburns. Selecting an area on either drawing also ticks its row in the list.
2. Adjust the measurement and density. The size fields contain example areas. Replace them with a measurement you have been given, or leave them unchanged to explore the arithmetic. Move the slider to compare different added graft densities.
3. Read the graft total. You can also select “Enter graft counts” to add up figures you already have. In that mode the density slider is disabled, so it cannot silently change your entered numbers. Copy the estimate to keep your selection.

Switching from manual entry back to area mode recalculates the total from the size fields and density setting. Reset clears every selection and restores the starting values. Changing hairs per graft affects the hair estimate only; it never changes the graft total.

What is a beard transplant graft?

A graft is a small piece of tissue containing one or more hair follicles. Grafts and individual hairs are therefore not interchangeable numbers. The NHS guide to hair transplantation explains how donor hair is divided or removed into grafts.

For beard work, the number of hairs in each graft and where it is placed matter as well as the total. Clinical descriptions of beard and moustache reconstruction describe using single-hair grafts at softer borders, with graft selection adjusted for other facial areas. A calculator cannot make those placement decisions.

How many grafts might a beard transplant need?

Start with the area you want to cover rather than a number you have seen in somebody else’s result. A small gap beneath the lower lip is a different calculation from two cheeks and a jawline. Even the same named region can be a different size on different faces.

In this calculator, the relationship is straightforward: selected area × added graft density = illustrative graft count. At 35 grafts per cm², a 10 cm² area gives 350 grafts. Doubling that area to 20 cm² gives 700. Those figures describe the inputs, not a recommendation for treatment.

Worked examples using the starting measurements

These are arithmetic examples using the calculator’s default areas. They are not typical patient requirements, a predicted result or confirmation that those numbers can be transplanted safely.

For an existing patchy beard, use the size of the patch you are exploring, not automatically the size of the whole cheek. The tool does not photograph your face or subtract existing hair. A consultation is needed to establish where additional grafts would be appropriate.

Beard density is not just a graft total

The slider is a way to compare numbers, not a preview of a finished beard. It cannot show the effect of hair thickness, growth direction, length or the shape of the beard outline. Nor does moving it to its maximum mean “full restoration”.

Beard planning is also different around the upper cheek, moustache and chin. The angle and distribution of grafts need to suit the area. The clinical paper on beard and moustache reconstruction describes these regional differences; it should not be read as a single density prescription for every person.

What is the beard transplant cost per graft?

Dividing a written treatment quote by its planned graft count gives an average price per graft for that particular quote. It does not establish a rate that can be applied to every beard transplant. A graft calculator cannot account for all the work included in a procedure.

Beard restoration may involve filling a small gap or planning coverage across several facial areas. The final quotation follows an assessment of the proposed treatment. Our Glasgow hair transplant cost guide contains the published pricing information; the totals above are not price quotations.

Before booking, ask what the agreed price includes, which areas will be treated and how any change to the proposed graft count would be handled. Keep the written treatment plan with the quotation so you can compare the same scope of work rather than a headline number alone.

Why your consultation may change the estimate

The default face map cannot examine your skin or donor hair. It also does not know whether you are filling a long-standing gap, treating an area affected by scarring or discussing a recent change in beard growth. These distinctions belong in a medical assessment, not a numerical shortcut.
